Truck carrying thread cargo hijacked in New Karachi, driver abducted and later released

KARACHI: Armed suspects travelling in a car hijacked a truck carrying high-value thread cargo in the Gabol Town Industrial Area near Shafiq Mor in New Karachi, police said.

According to police, the incident took place at around 3:30pm on Tuesday when the truck was moving from Nagan Chowrangi towards Shafiq Mor. Officials said the car-borne men intercepted the vehicle, forced the driver out, and took him into their own vehicle before fleeing with the truck loaded with thread.

The driver was abducted during the robbery and kept hostage in the suspects' car. Police said he was taken to multiple locations before being released later.

Officials said the complaint was received by police at 6pm, several hours after the incident occurred. The robbery took place in the Gabol Town Industrial Area, where the armed men managed to seize the cargo vehicle and escape.

Police begin investigation

Police said efforts are under way to trace the suspects and recover the stolen truck and cargo. Investigators are trying to obtain CCTV footage from the crime scene as well as nearby areas to gather details about the men involved and the vehicle they were using.

According to officials, the case is being examined from multiple angles as part of the ongoing investigation. Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the hijacking so far, while work continues to identify those responsible.

The incident involved a truck carrying what police described as high-value thread cargo. The suspects used a car to stop the truck and then shifted the driver into their own vehicle before escaping with the goods-laden truck.

Police said the driver was eventually freed after being moved through different locations by the abductors. Investigators are now focusing on surveillance footage and other leads in an effort to track down the robbers.

The hijacking occurred near Shafiq Mor in New Karachi, according to police, who said the truck had been travelling from Nagan Chowrangi at the time it was intercepted.
