Petrol pump owners warn of nationwide shutdown over unresolved sector issues

ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association has warned of a nationwide shutdown if its concerns are not addressed, raising the risk of fuel supply disruptions across Pakistan.

In a letter dated March 25, 2026, addressed to the Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum Division), the association sought an urgent meeting to discuss ongoing challenges facing the petroleum retail sector.

The communication follows an earlier letter sent on March 6, which the association said did not receive a response.

According to the association, petrol pump operators are facing operational constraints, financial pressures, pricing issues, and sudden policy changes affecting business continuity.

It stated that around 14,000 to 15,000 petrol pump owners across the country are impacted and require immediate attention from the government.

The association emphasised the need to include industry stakeholders in policy decisions to ensure stability and avoid further disruption.

It warned that failure to address these concerns could leave operators with no option but to suspend operations nationwide.

A shutdown of this scale could disrupt fuel availability, affecting transport systems and daily economic activity.

The association stated that responsibility for any resulting situation would rest with the petroleum ministry if timely action is not taken.

The warning comes as the country’s energy sector continues to face pressure, increasing the need for coordination between authorities and industry stakeholders.
