Teenager swept away by powerful tides during seaside picnic at Port Qasim

KARACHI: A day of seaside fun on Eid turned tragic in Karachi as a 17-year-old boy drowned near the Hasan Shah shrine in Port Qasim, while two other bodies were recovered from different locations in the city under unclear circumstances.

Police said the victim, Saif, son of Amir Hussain, was bathing in the sea when powerful waves swept him away. Rescue teams and volunteers responded quickly and retrieved his body, which was later transported to Jinnah Hospital.

Station House Officer Faisal Rafique noted that Saif was a resident of a nearby village. In a deeply emotional statement, the boy’s father recounted that he had been holding his son’s hand when the waves struck. “I was holding his hand, but he said he was fine. The moment I let go, the ruthless waves took him away,” he said.

After legal procedures were completed, the body was handed over to the grieving family.
