President, PM call for unity and solidarity on eve of Pakistan Day

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued separate messages extending felicitations to the nation on the occasion of Pakistan Day, with both leaders emphasising the importance of unity and national resolve.

President Zardari's message

In his message, President Zardari stated that Pakistan Day serves as a reminder that unity and solidarity are the most critical elements in turning national resolve into reality. He recalled that on this day in 1940, the Muslims of the Subcontinent adopted the Pakistan Resolution, putting forward the vision of a separate homeland where they could live freely in accordance with Islamic principles.

The president paid tribute to the sacrifices of the nation's elders, whose struggle and dedication led to the creation of Pakistan. He also highlighted the success of military operations, noting that like Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, Operation Ghazab lil-Haq has also achieved significant results. He reiterated that Pakistan would not allow any group, including Fitna al-Khawarij, to undermine the country's stability.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's message

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his separate message, praised the resilience of the Pakistani nation. He extended heartfelt felicitations to the people on the occasion of Pakistan Day, underscoring the importance of drawing inspiration from the sacrifices that led to the country's creation.

Armed Services chiefs reaffirm commitment

Meanwhile, the armed services chiefs also marked the occasion by reaffirming their commitment to defending the country's frontiers. The military leadership vowed to protect Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On behalf of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, COAS and CDF Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu extended their heartfelt congratulations to the nation.

According to a statement issued by ISPR: “The Armed Forces of Pakistan, ever vigilant and steadfast, reaffirm their enduring commitment to defending our sacred frontiers, protecting national sovereignty, and maintaining internal security against all forms of aggression and terrorism.

“Today, Pakistan stands as a responsible and principled member of the global community — advocating peace, stability, and cooperation across the globe. As one united nation, we move forward with eternal hope, unmatched resilience, and an unshakeable commitment to enduring prosperity.”

Pakistan Day is observed annually on March 23 to commemorate the adoption of the Lahore Resolution in 1940, which called for the creation of independent states for the Muslims of the Subcontinent. The day is marked with a national holiday, military parades, and ceremonies across the country honouring the founders and heroes of the nation.
