DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A wanted militant allegedly involved in a deadly attack on police personnel in Paharpur tehsil was killed during a joint operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and district police, officials said.
According to a statement issued by the CTD, the operation was carried out in the Wanda Badh area of Paharpur following intelligence reports about the presence of militants in the locality.
Slain militant identified
The killed militant was identified as Ahmad, son of Gul Din, who hailed from the Dotani tribe of the Panyala (Panj Tara) area. Officials said he was associated with the former Kachi militant group.
According to officials, Ahmad was wanted in multiple serious cases. He was directly involved in the attack that led to the killing of Faheem Mumtaz and six other police personnel. Hafiz Muhammad Adnan was also injured in the same incident, officials added.
Social media evidence linked militant to attack
Police said the slain militant had been visible in images that were circulated by militants on social media following the attack on police personnel.
Authorities described the elimination of the militant as a significant development in the ongoing efforts against militancy in the region.
The joint operation by the CTD and district police underscores the continued security efforts in Dera Ismail Khan, an area that has long faced challenges related to militancy. The successful targeting of Ahmad, who was allegedly linked to the killing of seven police personnel, marks a notable achievement for law enforcement agencies operating in the district.
The CTD has been conducting intelligence-based operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent months as part of broader counter-terrorism efforts in the province. Dera Ismail Khan, located in the southern belt of the province, has frequently witnessed militant activity and attacks on security forces.
