PESHAWAR: Winter conditions made a comeback in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as several districts across the province experienced rainfall and snowfall, with Parachinar recording the heaviest downpour at 34 millimetres.
Widespread rains lash multiple districts
Rain and snowfall hit various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing winter weather back to the province. Among the areas affected were Peshawar, Mardan and Swat, where residents witnessed a return of cold and wet conditions after what had been a relatively mild spell.
Parachinar, located in the Kurram district, received the highest amount of rainfall among all recorded areas, with 34mm of precipitation. The heavy downpour in Parachinar was notably the most significant reading across the affected regions of the province.
Snowfall in mountainous areas
In addition to the rains that drenched the lower-lying districts, snowfall was also reported in parts of the province. The mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saw a fresh spell of snow, further reinforcing the return of winter-like conditions across the region.
The combination of rain and snowfall across the province brought temperatures down and altered the weather pattern that had been prevailing in recent days. Districts including Peshawar, the provincial capital, and Mardan, one of the major urban centres of the province, were among those that received notable precipitation.
Swat, a popular tourist destination known for its scenic valleys, was also among the areas that experienced the wet weather spell. The rains and snowfall in the valley district added to the wintry atmosphere in the region.
Impact on daily life
The return of winter weather across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa affected daily routines in several districts. The rainfall and snowfall in the province brought with them colder temperatures and altered conditions for residents across the affected areas.
The weather system that brought rains and snow to the province impacted both urban and rural areas, with Peshawar and Mardan experiencing wet conditions alongside more remote and mountainous parts of the province where snowfall was recorded.
Parachinar's 34mm reading stood out as the most significant precipitation figure reported during this spell, highlighting the intensity of the weather system in the Kurram district area compared to other parts of the province.
