Elite Force ASI shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Upper Dir

LOWER DIR: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Elite Force was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Mano Banda area of Gandigar in Upper Dir, police said.

The slain officer, identified as ASI Bacha Yousaf Khan, was targeted outside his residence when unknown gunmen opened fire on him. He sustained critical injuries in the attack and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.

According to police sources, the officer was on his way to a mosque to offer Taraweeh prayers when the attackers struck. The fatal assault took place the other day, with the incident coming to light through police confirmation.

Search operation launched

Following the shooting, a heavy contingent of police arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. The Gandigar police registered a case against unidentified assailants and initiated investigations into the killing.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, leaving the motive behind the targeted killing unclear at this stage.

Road accidents injure four in Lower Dir

Meanwhile, in a separate development, four people were injured in two road accidents in different areas of the district on Wednesday, according to Rescue 1122 officials. A truck was involved in one of the accidents, officials confirmed.

The killing of the Elite Force officer has raised concerns about the security situation in the Upper Dir region. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the fatal attack on ASI Bacha Yousaf Khan.
