Eidul Fitr 2026: Week-long break for Public sector announced

Qatar has announced a seven-day public holiday for government employees to mark Eidul Fitr 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Amiri Diwan, the break for ministries, public authorities and other state institutions will run from March 17 to March 23. Employees are expected to resume work on March 24.

Schools across the country are also expected to follow a similar schedule, allowing students to benefit from the extended holiday at the end of Ramadan.

For the private sector, workers are usually entitled to at least three days of paid leave, although some companies may extend the break in line with the public sector schedule.

Holiday timings for banks and financial institutions will be announced separately by the Qatar Central Bank.

Eidul Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and is traditionally celebrated with special prayers, family gatherings, charity and travel. Astronomical forecasts suggest the festival may fall around March 20, subject to the official moon sighting.
