TTAP urges government to consult opposition and Parliament on defence agreements

ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) has called on the government to involve both the opposition and Parliament in discussions regarding defence agreements and policy matters, citing the evolving regional situation as a key reason for broader consultation.

This demand was articulated in a resolution passed during a joint parliamentary meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other opposition parties held at the Parliament House in Islamabad. The details of the resolution were shared through a post on TTAP’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The resolution highlighted the importance of achieving a national consensus on decisions related to national security, especially in light of recent developments in the region. It specifically addressed concerns about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Participants of the meeting expressed “deep concern” over the current regional situation. The resolution also condemned the recent US-Israeli attacks on Iran, noting that tensions in the Middle East escalated after Israel and the United States launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28. The resolution further mentioned the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was described as the Islamic republic’s supreme leader.

The TTAP emphasized that such significant defence and security decisions should not be made unilaterally by the government, but rather through consultation with all major stakeholders, including the opposition and Parliament, to ensure unity and consensus on matters of national importance.

The joint parliamentary meeting also included demands related to the Middle East conflict and the situation at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, reflecting the opposition’s concerns about the broader implications of regional instability for Pakistan’s security and foreign policy.
