Balochistan cabinet announces two-month salary waiver for ministers and aides

QUETTA: In response to ongoing global and regional challenges, the Balochistan cabinet convened a special meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. The session was attended by Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, the speaker of the provincial assembly, and parliamentary leaders from coalition parties.

The cabinet resolved that all provincial ministers, advisers, and parliamentary secretaries will forgo their salaries for two months as part of a broader austerity initiative. This decision is aimed at reducing government expenditures and conserving fuel resources.

During the meeting, it was also announced that all members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) have agreed to a voluntary 25 percent reduction in their salaries. The cabinet emphasized that these measures are intended to ensure the efficient use of the province's financial resources.

In addition to salary reductions, the provincial government will immediately implement an enhanced austerity campaign. This includes the introduction of a four-day work week and a work-from-home policy for government offices, further supporting efforts to cut costs and conserve energy.

The cabinet's decisions reflect a commitment to fiscal responsibility amid economic pressures. The measures are expected to contribute to the province's efforts to manage its budget more effectively and address current financial challenges.
