India’s Arshdeep Singh fined for throwing ball at New Zealand’s Mitchell in T20 World Cup final

New Delhi – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a fine on Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh following an incident during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8, 2026.

According to an official statement by the ICC, Arshdeep Singh was penalised for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the high-stakes match. The incident occurred when Arshdeep threw the ball in the direction of New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell in an inappropriate manner. The ICC determined that this action was contrary to the spirit of the game.

The ICC’s statement specified that Arshdeep Singh was found to have violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match, regardless of whether it is done in frustration or otherwise.

As a result of the breach, Arshdeep was fined 25 percent of his match fee. The ICC also confirmed that one demerit point was added to his disciplinary record. The governing body noted that Arshdeep admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee David Boon, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing.

The incident took place during a tense moment in the final, which saw both teams competing for the coveted T20 World Cup title. The ICC reiterated its commitment to upholding the standards of conduct expected from players on the field.

No further disciplinary action has been reported in connection with the incident.
