Over 250 staff at Rawalpindi government hospitals face unpaid salaries ahead of Eid

RAWALPINDI: More than 250 employees working at three major government hospitals in Rawalpindi have not received their salaries for the past month, just days before Eidul Azha. The affected staff are from Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital (RTH), and Benazir Bhutto Hospital.

According to a report in The Express Tribune, a total of 255 employees, including both regular and contract staff, have been impacted by the delayed payments. The delay has caused significant distress among the workers, many of whom rely on their monthly salaries to meet essential expenses, especially with the upcoming religious festival.

Hospital staff have warned that if their salaries are not released promptly, they may be forced to stage protests. Workers expressed frustration over the situation, emphasizing that the delay has made it difficult for them to manage household expenses and prepare for Eidul Azha.

One of the affected employees stated, "We have been waiting for our salaries for the last month, and now Eid is just around the corner. It is becoming impossible to manage our expenses." Staff members have called on the relevant authorities to address the issue urgently and ensure timely payment of their dues.

The three hospitals—Holy Family, RTH, and Benazir Bhutto—are among the largest public healthcare facilities in Rawalpindi, serving thousands of patients daily. The staff shortage or unrest could potentially impact hospital operations if the issue remains unresolved.

As Eidul Azha approaches, the affected employees continue to await a resolution, hoping that their salaries will be disbursed in time for the festival.
