ISLAMABAD – Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday raised concerns regarding the live-streaming of court cases, stating that the practice has led to “very negative outcomes” in some situations. His remarks were made during a hearing on a petition related to the promotion of teachers from various public sector universities.
During the proceedings, the court was informed that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) had submitted its response along with a policy report outlining the promotion criteria for BPS teachers. As the hearing continued, Justice Kayani noticed an individual in the courtroom recording the session on a mobile phone, which is not allowed under court rules.
The judge addressed the person, asking, “Who are you and what are you doing?” The individual identified himself as a teacher. Following this, the court staff confiscated the mobile device after being directed by Justice Kayani. The judge emphasized that recording court proceedings is not permitted and expressed his disapproval of such actions.
Justice Kayani further commented on the broader issue of live-streaming court cases, observing that the practice has, in some instances, resulted in negative consequences. He did not elaborate on specific cases but made it clear that the court views unauthorized recording and live-streaming with concern.
The hearing continued with discussions on the HEC’s policy report and the criteria for teacher promotions. No further details regarding the outcome of the petition were provided in the reports.
