A video circulating on social media platforms has been falsely attributed to Allama Raja Nasir, the opposition leader in the Senate, claiming that Pakistan permitted the United States to use its airspace against Iran. According to IVerify Pakistan, the video, which began spreading on March 2, was shared by multiple anti-state, Indian, and Afghan accounts on the platform X.
The platform confirms that the video clip is doctored using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The manipulated footage purports to show Nasir making statements about Pakistan's involvement in allowing US military operations targeting Iran. However, sources confirm that the content of the video is fabricated and does not reflect any actual remarks made by the Senate opposition leader.
The circulation of the doctored video comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. On February 28, Israel and the United States launched joint military strikes on Iran, resulting in the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. This action significantly escalated regional tensions, with Iran describing the strikes as unprovoked and illegal. In response, Iran launched missile attacks against Israel and at least seven other countries, including Gulf states hosting US military bases.
The conflict has continued for five days, with ongoing attacks from the United States, Israel, and Iran. Washington has stated that it is prevailing in the conflict and that US forces are prepared to continue military operations as long as necessary.
Amid these developments, the spread of misinformation through doctored videos has raised concerns about the use of AI in manipulating public perception. Sources emphasize that the video attributed to Allama Raja Nasir is not authentic and urge the public to verify information before sharing it further.
