QCCI Welcomes 45-Day EIF Waiver for Imports via Iran

The Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) has expressed strong support for the federal government's recent decision to approve a 45-day waiver on the Electronic Import Form (EIF) requirement for goods imported from Central Asian Republics (CARs) and Azerbaijan through Iranian territory.

The QCCI described the move as a "breath of fresh air" for the business community. QCCI President Haji Muhammad Ayub Maryani extended gratitude to the Ministry of Commerce for facilitating the waiver, emphasizing its significance not only for Balochistan but for traders across the country.

The Electronic Import Form is a mandatory document regulated by the State Bank of Pakistan and used by commercial banks to process and monitor import transactions involving foreign exchange. The form records essential details about import consignments, including the origin of goods, supplier information, and payment terms.

The newly granted 45-day EIF waiver temporarily relaxes these procedural requirements. This change is expected to enable traders to import goods from CARs and Azerbaijan via Iran more efficiently, reducing administrative hurdles and facilitating smoother trade flows.

QCCI officials highlighted that the waiver would provide immediate relief to importers and could help boost trade activities in the region. They noted that the decision is particularly important for Balochistan, given its geographic proximity to Iran and its role as a gateway for regional trade.

The business community views the waiver as a positive step towards enhancing economic ties with neighboring countries and supporting local traders. The QCCI reiterated its appreciation for the Ministry of Commerce's efforts in addressing the concerns of the trading sector and called for continued measures to simplify trade procedures in the future.
