ISLAMABAD: Hostilities between Pakistan and Afghanistan persisted into a third consecutive day, with no significant reduction in fighting despite calls from the international community for de-escalation. The ongoing conflict has resulted in numerous casualties since it began on Thursday night.
The clashes were triggered when Afghan Taliban forces targeted Pakistani positions along the shared border. This action reportedly came in response to earlier air strikes conducted by Pakistan in several Afghan provinces, which were aimed at militants accused of carrying out cross-border attacks.
Pakistan subsequently launched an operation referred to as ‘Ghazb lil Haq’, targeting military sites across Afghanistan. Security sources stated that on Saturday, the Pakistani armed forces continued both ground and air operations against the Afghan Taliban, focusing on formation headquarters in Nangarhar and other regions.
The headquarters of the Afghan army in Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces were destroyed in targeted air strikes. State-run media further indicated that air strikes hit two targets at the Mohmand Dara Base, though additional details were not provided in the available reports.
Efforts by the international community to mediate and reduce tensions have so far not succeeded in halting the violence. The situation remains tense along the border, with both sides reportedly maintaining active military operations.
There is no official confirmation regarding the exact number of casualties, but the fighting has claimed scores of lives since the onset of hostilities. The continuation of operations and retaliatory actions has raised concerns about further escalation if diplomatic efforts do not yield results.
