Ban on flattery

The recent verdict by the Supreme Court banning salutations of ‘Bakhidmat Janab SHO’ in applications addressed to Station House Officers (SHOs) is praiseworthy. What positive effect this step will have on the attitude and behaviour of officers is yet to be seen. The need, however, is to take concrete steps that would provide speedy justice to the public. Let us hope that some learned judge would soon issue orders banning the use of ‘Your Honour’ salutations in Pakistani courts.
