JOHANNESBURG: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called on overseas Pakistanis to play a stronger role in supporting Pakistan’s economic stability, describing expatriates as “ambassadors of Pakistan” who can project a positive image of the country abroad.
Addressing a reception hosted by the Pakistani community in Johannesburg, Fazlur Rehman said their skills, investments and engagement were vital for strengthening Pakistan’s economy and ensuring sustained growth in gross domestic product (GDP).
He highlighted the challenging economic conditions facing Pakistan, urging collective efforts to move the country out of the current crisis. He encouraged the diaspora to explore opportunities for investment, trade promotion, and community initiatives that could contribute to national development.
Referring to global political systems, Fazlur Rehman said debates continue worldwide between democracy and authoritarianism, arguing that capitalism operating in the name of democracy in some countries has burdened ordinary people, while in others, authoritarianism and communism have exploited populations.
The JUI-F leader reiterated his party’s commitment to policies promoting social justice, economic fairness and national sovereignty, and thanked the Pakistani community in South Africa for their support and hospitality.
