PDMA issues rain and snowfall alert for Punjab from Feb 1 to 3

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Friday issued a weather alert warning of rain and snowfall in several parts of Punjab from February 1 to 3, 2026, and directed all departments to remain fully prepared.

According to the PDMA forecast, Murree, Galiyat and adjoining areas are expected to receive rain and snowfall during the period. Rain is also likely in the Potohar region, as well as Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat and Gujranwala.

The alert has been issued to local government authorities, the Punjab health department, police and the transport department to ensure coordinated preparedness and response.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia instructed all relevant departments to complete arrangements in advance in line with the directives of the Punjab chief minister. He stressed that all possible measures should be taken to effectively handle any emergency situation arising from adverse weather conditions.

Special instructions have been issued to the district administration in Murree and allied departments to remain on high alert during the forecast period. The director general also advised tourists to adopt precautionary measures while visiting Murree.

Emergency control rooms have been directed to operate with staff on 24 hour duty, while Rescue 1122 disaster response teams have been placed on high alert to enable immediate action in case of any untoward incident.

In view of the forecast, the Murree administration has set up facilitation centres at various locations to provide timely guidance and assistance to tourists during adverse weather.

A PDMA spokesperson urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel in bad weather and strictly follow precautionary instructions. He said citizens could contact the PDMA Punjab helpline at 1129 in case of any emergency, adding that the situation was being closely monitored and all relevant agencies remained fully mobilised to ensure public safety across the province.
