LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has appointed Imran Khawar Siddiqui, son of the late senator Irfan Siddiqui, as Adviser to the Chief Minister, official sources confirmed.
The Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) Punjab has issued the formal notification of the appointment.
Party insiders noted that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif had initially considered Imran Khawar Siddiqui for a vacant Senate seat following his father’s passing. However, his current role as head of the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) made him ineligible to contest under existing regulations.
With the new appointment, Imran Khawar Siddiqui will now serve formally as adviser to the CM on provincial matters. His father, Irfan Siddiqui, had served as chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and as the PML-N’s parliamentary leader in the Senate.
