TORKHAM: On the 14th day since the partial reopening of the Torkham border, 2,635 Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan returned to Afghanistan on November 14, officials said.
The repatriation followed registration of the Afghan nationals—including women and children—at NADRA centers in Pakistan. Authorities emphasized that the border remains closed for trade and pedestrian movement, with only registered refugee departures permitted.
The Torkham crossing was partially reopened on November 1, 2025, to allow thousands of stranded Afghan refugees to return home after nearly three weeks of closure. The border had been sealed on October 12 following deadly clashes, which both sides reported resulted in significant troop casualties.
During the closure, thousands of Afghan refugees were stranded, and hundreds of trucks carrying goods were halted, disrupting vital trade routes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistani authorities continue to manage the process to ensure safe and orderly repatriation while maintaining restrictions on all other cross-border traffic.
