Pakistan, Jordan strengthen ties with four agreements in media, culture

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday hosted His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan for a landmark MoU and agreement exchange ceremony in the fields of media, culture, and education, underscoring the deepening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Jordan.

The event highlighted the two countries’ commitment to expanded collaboration across education, culture, media, and strategic sectors, reflecting the enduring friendship between the two countries.

During the ceremony, four key documents were exchanged, including a Programme for Cultural Cooperation, a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of Chairs of Urdu and Pakistan Studies at the University of Jordan, and two agreements between Pakistan Television Corporation, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, and Jordan Radio and Television Corporation, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

From the Pakistani side, the MoUs and agreements were exchanged by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, along with federal ministers Attaullah Tarar and Dr. Musadik Malik. Representing Jordan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi participated in the exchange.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with King Abdullah II at the Prime Minister’s House, focusing on matters of mutual interest. Discussions spanned avenues for deepening cooperation in economic, trade, investment, health, science and technology, education, and defence sectors. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing strategic and economic ties while promoting collaboration in regional and international fora.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed King Abdullah II’s visit as a testament to the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Jordan. In turn, His Majesty praised Pakistan’s unwavering support for Jordan’s role in regional stability and humanitarian efforts, particularly during and after the Gaza conflict.

The meeting also featured an extensive exchange of views on regional security, peace initiatives, and potential areas for joint collaboration. Highlighting the diplomatic warmth, the prime minister hosted a banquet in honour of King Abdullah II and the accompanying delegation.

Key officials accompanying the prime minister included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Minister for Information & Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musaddiq Malik, and other senior government officials.

The MoU and agreements ceremony, along with the high-level discussions, signals a new phase in Pakistan-Jordan relations, strengthening ties in culture, education, media, and strategic sectors, while paving the way for sustained bilateral and regional cooperation.
