Hafiz Naeem slams PPP, Karachi mayor for neglecting Karachi

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Sunday sharply criticised the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for what he called years of neglect and mismanagement in Karachi during its prolonged rule in Sindh.

Speaking at a ceremony in Karachi, Hafiz Naeem said the city’s infrastructure was crumbling while citizens were being burdened with e-challans worth thousands of rupees. “There is no transport system in the city, roads have not been built, and people are getting e-challans in thousands,” he said.

He accused the PPP of manipulating local government constituencies to secure more seats and claimed the party had “installed” its mayor through rigging. The JI leader also questioned Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s performance, asking, “Where has the S-3 project gone?”

Hafiz Naeem alleged that several key development projects in Karachi had been delayed for more than a decade. “The PPP has done nothing for Karachi in its entire tenure,” he said, pledging that Jamaat-e-Islami would free the city from “the system of looting and land grabbing.”

He further claimed that Karachi’s youth had been deprived of employment opportunities due to political manipulation in government hiring. Stressing that education was a right, not charity, he warned that disillusionment among the younger generation could lead to “dangerous consequences.”

“Generation Z is bringing a revolution across the world, but here it is being disappointed,” Hafiz Naeem said, adding that JI’s Bano Qabil programme was helping equip the youth with technical and professional skills.
