Punjab Police rescues five kidnapped citizens from Katcha dacoits in Rajanpur

  • Operation carried out in Katcha Circle Bangla Achha, seven facilitators also arrested

LAHORE/RAJANPUR: The Punjab Police in a successful operation, rescued five kidnapped citizens during an intense encounter with Katcha dacoits in Bangla Achha area, the police confirmed on Tuesday.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, a police team confronted the gang as the robbers were attempting to move the abducted citizens toward their hideout. Acting swiftly, the police pursued the culprits, surrounded them, and engaged in heavy crossfire. Despite the exchange of intense gunfire, all five hostages were rescued safely.

District Police Officer (DPO) Rajanpur said the robbers later took cover in nearby sugarcane fields. During the operation, police arrested seven of their facilitators. However, due to the dense crop cover, the main culprits managed to escape. A comprehensive search operation is currently underway to track them down.

Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, commended the Rajanpur Police for their courage and professionalism, lauding the team’s timely action that ensured the safe recovery of citizens.

DIG CTD briefs trainee DSPs on Punjab’s upgraded counter-terror capacity

Meanwhile, in Lahore, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab, Umar Salamat, met with trainee Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) from the National Police Academy. The DIG briefed them on CTD’s operational performance and strategic initiatives aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and maintaining peace across the province.

DIG Umar Salamat emphasized that CTD Punjab continues to play a vital role in ensuring stability and supporting economic growth through its counter-terrorism operations. He noted that under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, CTD has been equipped with modern technology, logistics, and transport facilities—substantially enhancing its operational capacity.

At the conclusion of the session, the DIG answered questions from the trainee officers, sharing field experiences and insights into the evolving challenges of counter-terrorism operations.
