PESHAWAR: Six people were killed on Wednesday when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle in Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan, officials said.
According to police, the vehicle burst into flames moments after being hit. District Police Officer Waqar Ahmed Khan confirmed that all six occupants were burned to death, adding that the bodies were completely charred and could not be identified on the spot.
Forensic samples have been sent for testing to determine the victims’ identities.
Preliminary findings suggest a bullet may have struck the vehicle’s fuel tank, triggering the fire. However, police said they were also probing the possibility of deliberate arson.
The vehicle was reportedly travelling from Mir Ali to Bannu when it came under attack. Law enforcement teams have launched a search operation to trace and arrest those responsible.
