Karachi faces water supply disruption during K-II Pumping Station line repairs

KARACHI: Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has initiated repair work on a 48-inch water supply line at the city’s K-II Pumping Station. The repairs include replacing a valve on the line, with work being conducted around the clock in 24-hour shifts. The project is expected to be completed within 48 hours.

As part of the maintenance, three out of 11 pumps at the North East Pumping Station have been temporarily shut down, along with one pump at the Dhabeji Pumping Station. Consequently, water supply to areas including Safura Town, North Nazimabad, and Gulberg Town will be affected. Disruptions are also expected in parts of Liaquatabad Town and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

Karachi typically receives 650 million gallons of water per day (MGD), but the repair work will cause a shortfall of 150 MGD, with the remaining 500 MGD supply continuing as usual. KWSC has advised residents to store water and use it sparingly during this period and has apologised for any inconvenience caused.
