CM Maryam launches South Punjab’s first e-bus service, vows equal development

  • Punjab CM claims 101 electro buses allocated for DG Khan division, including 24 begin plying DG Khan routes
  • Says South Punjab Secretariat to convene monthly in Bahawalpur, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan and DG Khan to address grievances
  • Pledges full compensation for flood-hit families, vowing self-reliance in flood rehabilitation process
  • DERA GHAZI KHAN: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday inaugurated the first-ever electro bus service in Dera Ghazi Khan, calling it a historic step toward modernizing transport in South Punjab.

At the inaugural ceremony, she announced the launch of a Metro Bus Service for the city and pledged that every district of South Punjab — including Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh and Kot Addu — would receive electric buses.

“In the first phase, 101 electro buses are being allocated for the Dera Ghazi Khan division,” the Punjab CM stated, described the project as a gift for ordinary citizens, students, women, and persons with disabilities.

She personally instructed a bus conductor to take special care of differently-abled passengers and rewarded him on the spot. Later, she traveled on the new bus from Jail Road Bus Stop to the venue, receiving a warm welcome from citizens who showered flowers and carried banners reading “CM Maryam – You Are Unparalleled.”

The Chief Minister said the service, with 24 buses to operate initially, would cover multiple routes, including General Bus Stand to Kot Chutta, Choti Zareen, Sakhi Sarwar, Shah Din Saddar, and a city loop. Each bus is fully air-conditioned with Wi-Fi, charging ports, CCTV cameras, and separate sections for women.

Rejecting criticism over flood relief, CM Maryam accused the PPP of politicizing the crisis despite being a federal ally. Without naming Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, she dismissed his call for international aid. “As Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, I will not extend my hand for charity. Punjab will manage from its own resources,” she said, adding that distributing Rs10,000 under BISP could not rebuild lives when families had lost homes, crops, and livestock worth millions.

She asserted Punjab had neither sought funds from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif nor diverted federal resources, and questioned why billions received under the NFC Award were not being spent directly on people’s welfare. “If any finger is raised against Punjab, I will break it,” she warned.

The Punjab CM highlighted the provincial government’s relief measures, including tents, rations, and food supplies, and confirmed that ration cards were being issued only to hardworking families in need. She pledged full compensation for flood-hit households and vowed that billions would be invested in South Punjab’s development.

Beginning her speech in Saraiki, she emphasized equal development across the province. She also announced that the South Punjab Secretariat would convene monthly sessions in Bahawalpur, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan to directly address people’s grievances.

Concluding, she urged citizens to protect the new buses: “These vehicles belong to the people. Treat them as your own, keep them clean, and stop anyone from causing damage. Harming them is harming the public itself.”
