ABU DHABI: Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed and Sahibzada Farhan have made impressive strides in the latest ICC T20I player rankings after their standout performances in the ongoing ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025.
The spotlight was on spinner Abrar Ahmed, who surged 12 spots, breaking into the top five for the first time in his career.
In the batting category, opener Sahibzada Farhan made a significant leap, rising 31 places to secure the 24th position with 589 points. His ascent follows a pivotal knock of 58 runs in Pakistan’s recent Super Four match against India.
Skipper Salman Ali Agha and fellow opener Fakhar Zaman also saw improvements, climbing three places each to 64th and 66th respectively.
However, there were some declines. Senior players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, who have not featured in a T20I for Pakistan since 2024, continued their fall in the rankings. Babar dropped nine places to 35th, while Rizwan slipped five spots to 38th.
Struggling opener Saim Ayub fell eight places to 55th, middle-order batter Hasan Nawaz dropped 11 spots to 58th, and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris fell one place to 90th.
India’s Abhishek Sharma held on to his top position as the No. 1 T20I batter, followed by England’s Phil Salt in second, and Tilak Varma overtook Jos Buttler to claim third.
Pakistan’s pace duo of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf also made gains, climbing to 25th and 28th, respectively, following solid performances.
Not all bowlers had a good run. Spinner Sufiyan Muqeem slipped three places to 14th, Mohammad Nawaz dropped 13 spots to 46th, and pacer Abbas Afridi fell three places to 44th.
India’s Varun Chakaravarthy remained the top-ranked T20I bowler, with New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy in second and the West Indies’ Akeal Hosein in third.
In the all-rounders’ rankings, Saim Ayub maintained his position at fifth with 201 points, while Mohammad Nawaz moved up one place to 17th. Shadab Khan fell five spots to 35th, while Faheem Ashraf surged 12 places to 39th. Both Shaheen Afridi and Agha Salman made notable climbs, with the pair rising 14 and 11 spots respectively, now tied at 71st.
India’s Hardik Pandya continued to lead the all-rounders’ rankings, followed by Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi in second and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza in third.
