60,000 kg of expired frozen chicken seizedĀ

FEROZEWALA: In a significant operation in Ferozewala, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) seized over 60,000 kilograms of expired frozen chicken, 400 kilograms of contaminated spices, and large amounts of spoiled vegetables from a cold storage facility. The raid, led by PFA Director General Asim Javed, revealed the presence of foul-smelling and hazardous chicken products, including karahi boti, chicken tikka boti, fajita, liver, neck pieces, and kebabs. All the contaminated stock was immediately confiscated and destroyed.

Authorities discovered that expired and fresh stock were stored together on the same racks, a violation of food safety standards. The condition of the cold storage was appalling, with even dead rats found on the premises. Investigations further revealed that the substandard meat and spices were being supplied to well-known food chains, supermarkets, and large restaurants, posing a serious risk to public health.

Director General Asim Javed warned that if this expired meat had reached the market, it could have caused severe health problems for consumers. The PFA destroyed chicken worth more than Rs 61.5 million during the operation. Authorities imposed a fine of Rs 1 million on the offenders, arrested two suspects, and filed cases against them for food safety violations and fraud.
