Kirk's tweet from 2017, posted on the night of October 5 after appearing as a guest on Kimmel's show, read: “Jimmy Kimmel isn’t funny.” The comment now carries additional weight, with many online users commenting on how Kimmel’s suspension following his claims about Kirk's killer reflects an ongoing conflict.
Following Kimmel's comments, ABC and its parent company announced his indefinite suspension on September 17. The comedian’s remarks, made during his September 15 monologue, were widely criticized. Kimmel had attempted to link the murder of Charlie Kirk to the MAGA movement, prompting backlash from various media outlets and networks.
In response, ABC has asked Kimmel to issue a public apology to the Kirk family and donate to both the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA, Kirk's conservative group.
Moreover, two prominent TV stations, Nexstar and Sinclair Inc., have announced they will no longer air Kimmel's show due to the backlash surrounding his comments. These stations, which operate ABC affiliates across the U.S., have decided to remove Kimmel's program indefinitely from their broadcast schedules.
