DOHA/GAZA: Before Monday’s summit of Arab and Islamic leaders in Doha, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, Basem Naim, stresses that Israel’s attack on Qatar has “once again demonstrated the treacherous nature of the Zionist enemy, which does not respect covenants or agreements,” Al Jazeera reports.
In a statement, Naim said the region and the world now stand at a “critical juncture,” either allowing Israel to continue its rampage and desecration or unite to put an end to the “law of the jungle established by Netanyahu and his fascist government.”
“We hope the summit will emerge with a unified and decisive Arab-Islamic position and clear and specific measures,” he said, including the end of the war, lifting of Israel’s siege of Gaza and “severing all ties with this rogue entity.”
First group of sick, injured Gaza kids UK-bound under govt scheme
A first group of sick and wounded children from Gaza are headed to Britain under a scheme allowing them to receive medical treatment, the UK’s health ministry confirmed Sunday.
The government has said the scheme is essential due to the lack of vital medicines and supplies in Gaza and medical workers being unable to do their jobs safely.
“We expect the children and their immediate family members to arrive in the UK in the coming weeks,” said a health ministry statement, noting that no flight details would be released “for operational security reasons”.
The Daily Mirror newspaper reported that the children are being cared for by medics in another country in the region before coming to Britain for treatment.
A small number of injured Palestinian children have already been brought to Britain under a private programme, Project Pure Hope.
Ministers have not said how many children will arrive under the new scheme, with reports that the first cohort could comprise 30 to 50.
Israeli soldiers raid home of Palestinian Oscar-winner Basel Adra
Palestinian Oscar-winning director Basel Adra has said that Israeli soldiers forced their way into his home in occupied West Bank and went through his wife’s phone while searching for him, Al Jazeera reports.
Israeli settlers attacked his village, injuring two of his brothers and one cousin, Adra was quoted as saying. While at a hospital with his brothers, Adra said he heard from his family members in the village that nine Israeli troops had stormed his house.
The soldiers asked his wife, Suha, about his whereabouts and went through her phone while his nine-month-old daughter was home. According to Adra, the soldiers also briefly detained his uncle.
Adra said he had no way of returning home to check on his family because “Israeli troops blocked the entrance to the village and he was afraid of being detained,” Al Jazeera added.
