US woman seeks help from IHC to recover children taken to Pakistan by husband

ISLAMABAD: A US citizen of Pakistani origin has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in a bid to trace her husband and two minor children, who were allegedly brought to Pakistan instead of being taken for Umrah, as initially promised.

Ghulam Ghausia Akhunzada, the petitioner, informed the court that she married Muhammad Owais Tariq, a resident of Taxila, in January 2014. The couple later moved to the United States, where they had two sons, Arham (8) and Haider (5). Akhunzada claimed that her husband took their children’s passports under the pretense of taking them to perform Umrah but instead traveled to Pakistan without her knowledge or consent.

She added that her husband has multiple addresses in Pakistan, and despite her efforts to search for him and the children, she has been unable to locate them. The petitioner also mentioned that a local court in the United States had already ruled in her favor.

In her petition, she requested the IHC to direct authorities to locate her husband and order him to return custody of the children. In response, IHC Justice Muhammad Asif instructed the director general of the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency to trace Tariq and submit a comprehensive report by Thursday.
