Gal Gadot clarifies comments linking ‘Snow White’ flop to anti-Israel sentiment in Hollywood

Gal Gadot has clarified her previous comments regarding the poor box office performance of Snow White, attributing some of its failure to external pressures related to her support for Israel. The actress, speaking on her Instagram Stories, explained that she responded to the question from an emotional place due to the intense personal criticism she faced as an Israeli.

“I felt that those who are against Israel criticized me in a very personal, almost visceral way,” she shared, adding that she was often seen first and foremost as Israeli, not as an actress. Gadot acknowledged that Snow White‘s failure wasn’t solely due to these pressures, noting, “There are many factors that determine why a film succeeds or fails, and success is never guaranteed.”

In a recent appearance on The A Talks in Israel, Gadot revealed that she was disappointed by the film’s performance, admitting she had expected it to be a huge hit. However, she acknowledged the challenges Hollywood faced amid the October 7 attacks and subsequent pressures on celebrities to speak against Israel.

Gadot’s involvement in the film, alongside Rachel Zegler, who portrayed Snow White, was marked by multiple controversies. Fans criticized Disney for casting Zegler, a Latina, in the role, while Zegler faced backlash for comments about the animated film’s plot being “dated” and her political views. Despite the controversies, Snow White grossed $205.6 million worldwide, falling short of its $240 to $270 million production budget.
