ISLAMABAD:Â The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday officially notified the names of the 11 successful candidates from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Senate elections held on July 21.
The notification confirmed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secured six out of the 11 seats, while the joint opposition parties won five seats.
For the general seats, PTI candidates Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Noorul Haq Qadri, and Mirza Afridi were declared successful. The joint opposition also claimed three general seats, with Niaz Ahmed from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Ataul Haq Darvesh from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), and Talha Mahmood from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerging as winners.
Additionally, the ECP notified that PTI’s Rubina Naz and PPP’s Rubina Khalid were elected on two women’s reserved seats.
For the two technocrat seats, PTI’s Azam Swati and JUI-F’s Dilawar Khan were declared successful.
The PTI and opposition parties had reached an understanding ahead of the elections to avoid a contentious race, ensuring that PTI secured six seats and the opposition parties took home five.
With the completion of the Senate elections in KP, the ECP’s official notifications pave the way for the newly elected members to take their seats in the upper house of Pakistan’s Parliament.
