CM Maryam puts administration on high alert to cope with monsoon rains

  • Punjab CM directs Civil Defense, volunteers to be ready to tackle any emergency

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday directed the commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain alert in view of unusual monsoon rains.

She directed the commissioners and deputy commissioners of the Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Talagang, and Jhelum districts to continuously monitor the rain situation.

She directed the relevant stakeholders to keep the air ambulance in take-off position in view of torrential rains and further directed the Rescue 1122 teams to remain present in the field at all times. She directed them to review the situation of flooding in torrential rains, rivers, and streams and also directed the Civil Defense volunteers to be ready in order to cope with any emergency situation. She also directed the deputy commissioners to fully cooperate with the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

In her message on the social networking website ‘X’, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that rescue operations are underway in the rain-affected areas. She outlined that people trapped in the rainwater are being shifted to safer places, and citizens are also being rescued by airlift.

She highlighted, “It is a matter of great satisfaction that no loss of life occurred due to any kind of negligence or carelessness committed by the relevant stakeholders.” She commended the administration and rescue teams and urged them to continue providingrelief activities to the rain-affected people with the same amount of spirit and dedication.

CM Maryam Nawaz Monitors Rescue Operation

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz digitally monitored the rescue operation carried out to save 16 people stranded in floodwater in Ladian, in the suburb of Rawalpindi. Owing to severe flooding in the River Soan, 16 people near Ladian were swept away by the floodwater.

The Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi immediately dispatched a rescue team under the supervision of the AC Saddar. The rescue team immediately launched an operation to rescue the people trapped in the flood. It rescued 12 people trapped in the flood and shifted them to a safe place. They also rescued 5 more people from the flood havoc in Ladian.

40 precious human lives saved in Chakwal & Jhelum

On the other hand, 40 precious human lives were saved by timely rescue operations in the villages of Chakwal and Jhelum. The river overflowed due to torrential rains in the border village of Dhok Badar and other villages. A huge water torrent also reached the Chakwal side due to a cloudburst.

At the request of the deputy commissioner, the army helicopter immediately reached the site. The army helicopter carried out a rescue operation in Dhok Badar and Nakka Kalan and airlifted 40 people stranded in the floodwater. The entire rescue operation was completed in a few hours, and there was no loss of life. All the villagers were shifted to safe places.

Due to torrential rains, flooding, and a huge water torrent, the land route to Dhok Badar and other villages had been cut off. The residents of the villages thanked the Punjab government and the army team for carrying out a timely rescue operation. The affected people said that if the administration had not timely carried out the rescue operation, they would have faced severe difficulties and their rescue would have become impossible.

The people expressed gratitude to the Punjab government and Pakistan Army over being rescued to a safe and secure place.
