TIANJIN: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar of Pakistan met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Wednesday, where they reaffirmed mutual support in key sectors such as agriculture, mining, industry, and security.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Tianjin.
Dar was in China for a three-day visit to participate in the SCO meeting, and according to the Foreign Office (FO), the two leaders discussed a broad range of issues, with particular emphasis on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and multilateral cooperation.
The Foreign Office later posted on X, noting that the meeting covered core areas of mutual interest, with both countries expressing commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
Chinese state-run CGTN reported that Wang Yi highlighted China’s readiness to work closely with Pakistan to implement the consensus reached by the leadership of both nations.
“China is ready to work with Pakistan to push forward the building of a China-Pakistan community with a shared future,” said Wang. He emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation, particularly in the fields of agriculture, industry, mining, and CPEC development.
Wang also reiterated China’s concerns about the safety of its nationals working in Pakistan but expressed confidence in Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts. He expressed belief that Pakistan would continue to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions.
In turn, Dar expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its warm hospitality and praised the successful hosting of the SCO meeting. “It was a pleasure to engage in meaningful discussions with my counterparts, covering regional and multilateral issues of shared interest,” Dar posted on X. He also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for China, particularly on the One-China principle and on issues related to China’s core interests.
Furthermore, Dar pledged Pakistan’s continued efforts to safeguard Chinese personnel and institutions in Pakistan, reinforcing the commitment to the ongoing strategic partnership between the two nations.
Both leaders also discussed plans for marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, highlighting their shared future and the importance of celebrating this milestone with high-level engagements.
