ISLAMABAD: Two of Pakistan’s most wanted fugitives have been arrested in Spain, following the diplomatic efforts of Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.
According to Radio Pakistan, the arrest of these long-time absconders marks a significant success in Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to apprehend individuals wanted for serious crimes.
The arrested suspects, Nawazish Ali Hanjra and Haroon Iqbal, were wanted by Pakistani authorities for various criminal offenses, including terrorism, murder, and kidnapping for ransom. Their arrests were made possible through the issuance of Interpol Red Notices. After completing the necessary legal procedures, the two suspects will be handed over to Pakistani authorities.
The arrests followed a recent visit by Talal Chaudhry to Spain, where he met with Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska. During the meeting, Chaudhry requested the swift arrest and extradition of wanted individuals through Interpol. In response, the Spanish authorities acted promptly, directing relevant agencies to take action.
Pakistan has been seeking the arrest and extradition of 38 fugitives from Spain via Interpol Red Notices for several years. Chaudhry expressed his gratitude to the Spanish government for their cooperation and emphasized his hope that more absconders will be apprehended and returned to Pakistan in the near future.
