Second Congo virus death reported in Malir

KARACHI: Sindh has confirmed its second death from Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), also known as Congo virus, in 2025. A 25-year-old fisherman from Ibrahim Hyderi, Muhammad Zubair, died on June 19 after being admitted to Jinnah Hospital on June 16 with severe symptoms, including high fever, muscle pain, abdominal pain, cough, diarrhea, and bleeding.

Suspicion of Congo virus infection led to his referral to the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital & Research Centre (SIDH & RC), where he passed away. Following the death, the Sindh Health Department deployed an Active Search and Response Team to Ibrahim Hyderi to gather information and identify individuals who came into contact with the patient.

At present, no other cases have been reported, but health officials have provided counseling on preventive measures and early symptom detection.
