Strong Winds and Hailstorms Expected Amid Pre-Monsoon Rains In Pakistan From June 20

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted pre-monsoon rains in various regions of the country from June 20 to 23. The forecast warns of strong winds, hailstorms, and potential weather-related hazards during this period.

Rainfall is expected in upper and central parts of the country, including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, and Islamabad. Other areas likely to experience rain include Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, and Sialkot. Showers are also expected in Narowal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, and Swabi.

Balochistan’s Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel, and Kalat may receive showers, while Sindh’s northern regions, such as Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad, could see rain accompanied by gusty winds from June 22 to 24.

The department has also issued warnings for strong winds and hailstorms, which could pose risks such as falling trees, damaged solar panels, and weak structures collapsing. Citizens are urged to take precautions, especially in urban areas.

Earlier, the Met Office predicted that the pre-monsoon season would begin on June 22, with rainfall expected to be 25% higher than usual across the country. Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that they are prepared to handle potential flood situations in urban centers and low-lying areas, emphasizing readiness to respond to emergencies.

Concerns are raised over possible urban flooding and waterlogging, with some cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Gujranwala, and Sialkot, expecting up to 60% more rainfall than the seasonal average.

Karachi Weather Update
Karachi experienced pleasant weather on Thursday with a sea breeze and partly cloudy skies. The temperature in the city was recorded at 32°C, with 64% humidity. The forecast indicates rainfall from June 25 to July 2 as the monsoon system enters Pakistan. During this period, the maximum temperature in Karachi is expected to remain around 32°C.

Temperature Report
The highest temperatures on Thursday were recorded in Sibi and Bahawalpur at 42°C, followed by DI Khan, Sargodha, Multan, and Faisalabad at 39°C. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar registered temperatures of 38°C, while Sialkot and Quetta saw 36°C. Muzaffarabad and Gilgit recorded 35°C, with Karachi staying cooler at 33°C.
