LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Unknown assailants launched a rocket attack on the house of Mubarak Zeb Khan, the Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, in Bajaur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Saturday. The attack, which took place at 1 a.m., caused damage to part of the minister’s residence but fortunately resulted in no injuries. Local police confirmed the incident and have since initiated an investigation.
This marks the second attack on Khan’s residence in just one month. In May, terrorists had used an improvised explosive device (IED) to destroy the main gate of his house. Following Saturday’s attack, Khan stated that such attacks would not deter him from his mission of public service.
Khan has previously received threats from international numbers and has suggested that operatives from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) may be involved, possibly aided by local elements. He believes these attacks are linked to his efforts in promoting development in Bajaur, an area that some militants oppose due to ongoing infrastructure projects.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the rocket attack, stressing that such acts of violence were aimed at destabilizing the region. He directed authorities to carry out a thorough investigation and apprehend the perpetrators. “The government is committed to eliminating terrorism and ensuring the safety of public representatives,” Sharif affirmed.
