Karachi experiences 31st earthquake in six days

KARACHI: Karachi was shaken by mild tremors early Friday morning, marking the 31st recorded earthquake in just six days. The Seismic Monitoring Centre reported that two low-magnitude quakes hit the city, continuing a wave of seismic activity.

The first tremor struck at 4:46 am with a magnitude of 2.7 on the Richter scale. Its epicentre was located 20 kilometres south of DHA, at a shallow depth of 2 kilometres, making it easily felt in nearby areas. The second tremor followed at 7:58 am, registering a magnitude of 1.8 at a depth of 8 kilometres, with its epicentre situated 7 kilometres northwest of Malir.

Since June 1, Karachi has experienced a series of mild earthquakes, including a 2.0 magnitude tremor in Malir on June 5 and a 2.1 magnitude jolt in southern Malir on June 4. No casualties or damage have been reported so far.

Authorities have issued an alert warning of possible further seismic activity over the next few days and urged residents to stay informed.
