ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan has announced its decision to elevate diplomatic ties with Pakistan by upgrading its chargé d’affaires in Islamabad to the rank of ambassador. The move follows Pakistan’s declaration to enhance its diplomatic engagement with Kabul in a similar manner.
Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the decision through an official statement, also shared on the ministry’s “X” account. He said the development would help expand cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors.
The statement came after Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Friday that Pakistan would upgrade its representation in Kabul to ambassadorial level. Dar, who had recently met his Chinese counterpart in Hong Kong, termed the decision a step to maintain the positive momentum in bilateral ties.
Dar also referred to his visit to Kabul on April 19 with a Pakistani delegation, saying relations were moving in a constructive direction. He expressed hope that the diplomatic upgrade would enhance collaboration in areas such as economy, security, counterterrorism, and trade.
Afghan political analyst Sayed Moqaddam Amin welcomed the development and called it a constructive step for addressing shared challenges. He expressed hope that it would strengthen political and diplomatic ties between the two neighbouring countries.
