BANNU: Two police officers were martyred and another injured in a brazen terrorist attack on a police check post in Bannu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, officials from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) confirmed.
According to a statement issued by the CTD, the assailants launched the attack by detonating explosives at the main gate of the police post, creating a breach that led to an intense exchange of gunfire. The coordinated assault resulted in the deaths of two police officials, while another sustained injuries during the clash.
The powerful blast not only damaged the check post but also caused destruction to nearby shops and infrastructure, including disruption of the area’s power supply. The injured policeman and affected civilians were promptly moved to District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive search operation in a bid to apprehend those responsible. The CTD has stated that all efforts are being made to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued a statement condemning the attack, offering heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred officers and prayers for the swift recovery of the injured. He commended the bravery of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police and acknowledged their continued sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
“The nation stands with our police force in this difficult hour. Their dedication and courage are the backbone of our internal security,” Naqvi said.
This latest incident highlights the persistent threat posed by militancy in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces continue to remain on high alert amid a resurgence in terror activity over recent months.
