PESHAWAR: Pakistan has reported two new cases of Monkeypox (mpox) in 2025, with both patients hailing from Peshawar. The latest cases have raised concerns about the virus’s spread, although health officials assure that necessary precautions are being taken.
According to the health department, one of the patients is a 20-year-old local resident, while the other is a 42-year-old individual who had previously traveled to Saudi Arabia. Authorities have classified the younger patient’s case as a local transmission, while the older patient’s infection is linked to recent travel history.
Both individuals sought treatment at Khyber Teaching Hospital, where doctors tested them for Monkeypox based on clinical suspicion. Following confirmation of the virus, health authorities directed them to isolate at home. Officials confirmed that no symptoms of the disease have been observed in their family members so far.
Advisor to the Health Minister, Ehtisham Ali, stated that the situation is being closely monitored and that isolating the patients at home is a precautionary measure to curb any potential transmission.
Meanwhile, the health department continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases to prevent further spread of the virus.
