High-rises to replace government houses in federal capital

ISLAMABAD: The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has sought proposals from CDA regarding removal of government houses and construction of high-rise buildings.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) has also written to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), suggesting the removal of government houses and construction of high-rise buildings on its place.

PIDE's letter includes the referenced article, stating that in the G-6/1 area, 86 acres of land are occupied by single-story government houses.

According to the letter, if six high-rise buildings are built on 9 acres, 77 acres of government land could be freed up, generating an estimated income of Rs55 billion for CDA, with further potential growth in revenue.

The letter further mentions that similar government houses exist in G-6, G-7, and F-6 areas.

According to CDA sources, Research Associate Azwar Mohammad Aslam sent this article to the CDA with a cover letter from SIFC, citing examples from the UK and India.

Sources indicate that CDA will conduct further studies before offering a comprehensive opinion on the matter.
