Restoring constitution’s original form is key issue, says SCBA leader

ISLAMABAD: Senior lawyer and leader Hamid Khan on Tuesday stated that restoring the constitution to its original form has been a major issue in the ongoing Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election.

When questioned by the media about the 26th Amendment, Hamid Khan responded that it represents “the biggest attack on the constitution,” having disrupted the judicial system.

Hamid Khan highlighted the necessity for lawyers to actively campaign against the 26th Amendment to ensure judicial independence. He emphasized that removing this amendment is crucial to maintaining the judiciary’s autonomy.

The SCBA election is underway, with over 4,000 eligible voters casting ballots to elect central office bearers, vice presidents, and executive members from various provinces. Among them, Lahore has the largest voting body with 1,414 voters, followed by Karachi with 516, and Peshawar with 372.
