Tribal violence and crime

The inhabitants of the Katcha or riverine area are living in a hell. They are subjected to all sorts of crime, and are often caught in tribal confrontations. Two weeks ago, a group from the Kalpar Bugti tribe attacked the Shar tribe and killed ten of their people, apparently in revenge. A few days back, a mob belonging to the Sundarani tribe shot a man of the Sawand tribe who later succumbed to his injuries. To create fear and intensify the tension, they even uploaded a video clip on social media of the man lying on the ground severely injured. Moreover, every other day, there is news of kidnapping followed by demands of high ransom.

It is despairing to note that the government and the law enforcement agencies have left the people living in the Katcha area at the mercy of criminal and tribal leaders. The situation warrants firm action from the relevant authorities meant to restore peace in the Katcha area, enabling the local population to live peacefully.
