UoG seminar seeks to perk up chances of dream IT job

GUJRAT: A few more things to learn before stumbling upon your dream job, especially if you are an IT graduate and feel it's always been a near-miss in your case, advised the experts at a seminar here at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) on Friday.
Titled "Enhancing Employability of IT Professionals,” the seminar was aimed at helping IT students succeed in their job hunt.
Prof. Dr Sohail Naqvi, CEO of Knowledge Streams, was the chief guest of the seminar organized by the Student Services Centre of the varsity. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Shabbar Atiq presided over the seminar. Vice Chancellor PUET Prof. Dr Rauf Azam, Project Manager HEC Social Sciences Consortium Murtaza Noor and Mohammad Jamal Qureshi were among the guests of honour.
Earlier, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the UoG and Knowledge Streams Lahore to provide the latest training opportunities to the students of Information Technology. The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr Shabbar Atiq and Prof. Dr Sohail Naqvi with a view to further expanding the scope of IT by promoting practical approach among students.
Another MoU was signed between the UoG and Elite Sports. The MoU, which was signed by Director SSC Ghafar Mohiuddin and Mohammad Jamal Qureshi, seeks to promote sports among the students.
Dr Sohail Naqvi in his address highlighted the importance of sustainable employment in a student's career.
“Information Technology has changed the concepts of development and employment to a great extent,” Dr Naqvi said, urging the students to adopt international standards to be successful. He underscored the need for them to develop and improve their communication skills, critical thinking and teamwork. “Opportunities are galore for our youth in the IT sector. They have the potential to compete and succeed in the world IT market if they fully utilise their abilities and develop self-confidence,” Dr Naqvi said.
Dr Shabbar Atiq said that the collaboration of universities with industrial and commercial organizations will pave the way for the graduating students in securing their dream job. He linked the bright future of the youth with the practical education and training, saying the practical approach in the higher education and training of our youth will go a long way towards achieving the goal of national progress and development.
Dr Rauf Azam stressed the need for updating universities’ courses and programs to meet the requirements of the world job market. “Our technology and science teachers should establish a strong rapport with the local industrial and commercial tycoons that the graduating students looking for a job could also benefit from,” Dr Rauf Azam said.
