ISLAMABAD: Mansoor Usman Awan officially began his tenure as the new Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) on Tuesday.
In a statement to the press, Awan expressed his commitment to appearing before the Supreme Court in response to the constitutional petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) regarding the delay in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elections.
When asked about his opinion on the five-judge bench, Awan said that he will reserve his judgment until he has appeared before the court.
Awan is a Lahore-based lawyer and has previously served as counsel for the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in a number of important cases, including the implementation of Article 95 and the presidential reference on the interpretation of Article 63(A) of the Constitution.
The appointment of Awan came after President Arif Alvi accepted the resignation of Shehzad Ata Elahi from the post of attorney general and approved the appointment of Awan as his successor.
