Three die, women among 221 injured in quake-triggered incidents in Swat

SWAT: At least three persons dead and 221 others, including 75 women and a transgender, sustained injuries incidents triggered severe earthquake that rattled scenic Swat region like other part of country Tuesday night, confirmed officials.

The officials informed that about six houses were completely destroyed while hundreds of houses were partially damaged by the earthquake across the district.

According to Swat Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Wazir, 15-year-old Husna, resident of Qandeel village in Madyan area of Tehsil Bahrain, buried to death when a wall of her house collapsed. Another, 20-year-old Hamza, son of Falak Naz (late), resident of Chungai village of Barikot Tehsil, dead wall of his house collapsed on him. Similarly, an elderly woman, widow of Jahanzeb, reportedly died of heart attack during the quake in Kabal Tehsil of Swat.

“About 100 persons who fell unconscious due to fear of the severe tremors were also brought to the trauma centre in Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital. Presently about 18 persons are hospitalized and the rest of them were discharged after giving them first aid in the hospitals,” he said.

According to Upper Swat Development Authority, Madyan-Kalam Road was also blocked due to landslide triggered by quake at several locations, which let locals as well as tourists stranded. However, the road was cleared with help heavy machinery and was opened for all kinds of traffic.
